Had Giuseppe not undertaken a fortnight’s work experience in a local salon aged 15, his career could have taken a very different path: ‘My father was a gardener and I had the option of following in his footsteps. But after my work placement, I just fell in love with hairdressing – and my dad said my hands were more suited to hair work than horticulture!’
An apprenticeship in a Surrey salon followed and Giuseppe stayed with the company for three years. He then moved to London to work in a Knightsbridge salon where he learned all he could about hairdressing.
Giuseppe's life changed at the age of 22 when an opportunity arose to buy a salon in Staines-Upon-Thames. He joined forces with former colleague Lorenzo Mortellaro and together they realised the dream they had always discussed and opened Mova (an amalgamation of both surnames). Mova opened its doors in 2002 and Giuseppe has never looked back…
A self-confessed family-man who is driven by ambition to make his loved-ones proud, Giuseppe believes that the secret to Mova’s success is its ability to evolve: ‘We never stand still as a company – we’re always keen to learn anything we can, whether it’s a new innovation we can introduce at the salon or a new technique we can bring to a client.’
Let's find out a little more about what makes Giuseppe tick with this fun Question & Answer session...
Which styles or colours do you absolutely love doing? I enjoy cutting short hair, restyling hair and cutting with curly hair texture.
What do you love about being a hairdresser? I like transforming people, making them feel better about themselves and more confident. I am also an Educator so enjoy passing on my skills and knowledge to future stylists and colour technicians.
Which celebrity hair would you like to get your hands on and why? I’d like to cut Gordon Ramsay’s hair so I can pick his brains about his business success.
Who or what inspires you to create fabulous hair? The smile on my clients’ faces.
What is your ultimate ambition? To be recognised within the hairdressing industry for excellence and to become a business coach! One day.
How would you describe yourself in three words? Caring, passionate and ambitious.
I have been with Mova since 2012, Mova is like a second family to me. We call ourselves a family as we spend more time with each other than we do with our own families.
I have been on a huge journey with Mova from starting as an apprentice and being fully qualified hairdresser on the shop floor to now becoming our front of house and salon manager at Mova Staines.
My job is my passion in life. I love being the first smile you see when you come to the salon and the last smile when you leave the salon. I love the concept of making the salon run smoothing with clients and behind the scenes.
I have a extra job role of making sure our social media is on point and updated for client if it may be salon news or showing off our Mova work.
If I could give you three words to describe myself it would be.. friendly, positive, multi-tasker
We'd like to introduce you to our new Director & Colour Specialist, Alex.

Three words I would use to describe myself would be bubbly, resilient and a chatterbox!
I love colouring hair equally as much as I enjoy cutting it. I am currently working alongside Giuseppe and Tom within the Mova training school to teach the next generation of hairdressers their cutting skills to a high standard!
I believe I put 100% into everything I do at Mova because I love my job. I get to make people feel good about themselves everyday.. what more could I want?
I look forward to what my future holds for me here at Mova.

Hi, I'm Emily. I joined Mova in July 2017 and am looking forward to learning new skills. I've always had a passion for hairdressing and I can't wait to become a stylist myself. My mum Inspired me to get into the hairdressing industry as she was a hairdresser for many years. I love being able to make people feel good about themselves and giving them confidence. I'm looking forward to my future career as a stylist a Mova.
I joined Mova as an apprentice on their training scheme in July 2017.
I am training with the Mova Training Scheme and am due to complete my training in 2021, when I hope to work further with my passion, which is colour creativity. I attended the L'Oreal Hammersmith Academy for training courses and am excited to work with L'Oreal as our salon colour brand. My favourite part of working at Mova is seeing the clients come into the salon and being transformed with hair cuts, styles and colour. I love seeing them smile when they see what our stylists have done with their hair. I enjoy building relationships with our clients, and catching up with them when they next visit.
Hiya, my name is Pia. I am a very active person and I have always enjoyed dancing. I am currently doing my apprenticeship at Mova Hairdressing and I have always had a passion for hair, especially when I was younger. I finally decided to follow my passion and make a career for myself out of it!
